Which walk do we do first? Castle rock or Devils Slide next to the campsite. Lets do the climb to the lookout on Castle rock and granite skywalk first and then we will see.
Well what for us was a long climb was actually only a 5 km walk with 260 m height difference. We are slowing down and not in a hurry. You continuously climb up on a path through the forest with the larger Karri and Marri trees near the top. Higher up you start to walk over granite and the last stretch had handholds so you can hoist youself up through the cracks between the boulders. The skywalk provides a 270 deg walk around the top boulders with nice view af the surrounding tree plantation and coastline in the distance. Tiring walk but well worth with the views up the top.
After the walk there was no energy left (at least with Rudy) to do more. So back to the campsite and took a well earned rest.
We then drove on to Stirling Range NP. On the way we saw many road trains. A sight we haven’t seen since we left North WA. And on a Sunday too.
We started walking at 11.30a to Bluff Knoll. (1099 m, 10 km return) It seemed easy walk in the beginning. Then the climb started with many steps (at least 3000) that go on and on forever. Around every corner you thought it would stop but then again more steps. Rudy stopped several times for a rest and with a bit of encouragement from Jamaliah, we made it to the top. I am very proud of Rudy of not giving up. Luckily the weather was great for climbing. Sunny with strong wind which keeps the flies away and keeps you cool.
Of course once up you have to go down. With those steps, your knees and legs turned to jelly by the time you reached the carpark. Took us almost 5 hours up and back. Two days of climbing mountains are not our everyday activity. Very tiring indeed. So tomorrow we are exchanging the mountain for beaches.
