After packing the camper, we are off driving to the Bass Strait (via the thirteen-beach road) and of course the famous Great Ocean Road. This road was built between 1919 and 1923 by the returning soldiers who survived the Great War. This ocean road offers superb views of the Bass Strait as it twists along the water front and over the steep hill/cliffs or through the gum tree forests of the Otway NP. It is a famous surfing area and you see the youth practicing on many of the beaches. We made a short walk to the Skenes falls. There are many campsites along the way, but at A$50+ per night we preferred to find a free campsite.  Jamaliah found one, via the park4night app,  at the Cape Otway lighthouse carpark.

in the next morning we saw a large group of walkers with rucksack coming out of the forest. It was raining. They walked to a bus which was parked over night on the Lighthouse parking lot. Later we saw many more walkers who are walking the Great Ocean walk. The total is 100km with campsites every 15-20 km. We walked along the path to one of the campsites hoping to get a good picture of the Lighthouse. The rain and fog made it difficult to see the white light station in the distance amongst the cloud. We then did a tour of the lighthouse/telegraph/radar complex. On the way out driving through the Manna gum forest at walking pace, Jamaliah spotted a Koala in a tree! He had his back towards us. Fortunately  later on the main road we saw several cars stopping on the side and looking up in the eucalyptus tree at a total of 3 Koala! This time they were much more active which we recorded on video.

The main highlight of the Great Ocean Road is the rock formation called the 12 apostles. These are sandstone pillars standing in the ocean. There are only 6-7 of them but this name draws in more tourists. Especially Chinese. Bus loads of them are busy trying to get the perfect photo.  Rudy found it all a bit overrated. Further along the coast we made some more stops to see the cliff erosion and at the carpark where we are sleeping tonight we also have a good view of the cliffs and ocean.
