The drive out towards the Sharny Canyon was the first over the rough winding mountain road, then over a smooth road till the turnoff and then 12 km of ribbled (washboard) steppe dirt track to the canyon. It was hot and dry. Something we were no longer use to. The views down into the canyon were spectacular. There was also a road going down which were not allowed to take because we had no 4WD. Pity. I would have liked to camp at the river at the bottom of the canyon.
Instead we drove further towards Almaty and found a small track into a narrow valley with a small stream. Since it was so hot Rudy had to cool down in the stream again.
