St. Helens lies on the East coast. North of the town are several white sand beaches inbetween the granite boulders. We tried several public campgrounds but they were all full. We finally found one free campsite in one of these beach campgrounds. Just in time before the rain started.
After the downpour last night, we woke up with clear sunny skies. First we went for a walk to the white sand beach and clear blue sea here. The white crystalline granite rock erodes to the white sand on the beaches and also gives the blue color to the water in the lagune. We saw several fishermen on the rocks and one of them had caught 2 medium size salmon. We then drove to the end of the road and walked over the orange colored rocks. This coloring comes from fungus growing on the rocks. It gives the area the name Bay of Fire.
