We drove over the Continental divide at 900 – 1400 m. It is a wide plateau settled by Scots given the names of the towns we drove through (Glen Innes, Dundee) to the south. Various roads cross over to the coast. We took the one to Port Macquarie and stopped at this campsite on the rim of a deep gorge in the rock. The Apsley waterfall drops some 70 m down into it and disappears under the rubble at the bottom of the gorge. In the morning we made 2 rim walks. One around the Apsley falls where we had spent the night and the other at the Tia falls some 20 km further down the road. The Tia falls are even more impressive than the Apsley falls. Both rivers had cut deep gorges into the continental divide mountains. The walks had various overhanging lookouts into the gorge.

We took the minor Thunderbolt Highway south east through the mountains towards Gloucester. Some descends are so steep and long that you had to switch down to second gear to prevent overheating of the break system.  We drove a bit on to Stroud and are staying at the showground. We have descended from 1050 m to 100 m. Still it is a cold night due to the clear sky.
