We drove in the direction of Clifden to the north west. Along the way we stopped at a restored Tower Castle (Aughnanure). We saw many ruins of such castles along the way but this one is restored. We then drove through the Connemara NP (beautiful landscape) and stopped at Kylemore Abbey. The abbey is a Benedictine Nun monastery. The sisters came here after their monastery was destroyed in Ypres (Belgium) during WW1. They found a large empty mansion build in 1868 by a well to do English business man and surgeon (Mitchel Henry) who married an Irish lady. He spent his fortune developing this rural part of Ireland and represented them in the London parliament. We made a tour of the House, Mini Cathedral and the large walled in Victorian gardens.
Further up the road we parked the camper in front of the town chapel in Tullycross. We had a drink in the pub across the road. It was s great overnight location in front of the chapel and opposite the pub. Not much traffic during the night and in the morning a nice view on the country roads and the commuters.
