The tourist office of Donegal advised a stop at the fishing village of Killybegs on the way to the cliffs of Sliabh liag. The harbor of the fishing town is full of large ocean-going trawlers and the town is modernized. Not worth the stop actually. The cliff view at Sliabh Liag is however spectacular. We parked the camper at one of the two visitor centers and took the shuttle bus up the mountain to the viewing platform. Beautiful drive up and great views.
From here we first drove over narrow roads along the coast and then straight over and in between the mountains to our seaside campsite on the northern coast. We drove through open bog (hoog veen) land. Also, here small patches of bog were being cut, dried and packed into plastic bags for local consumption. Apparently, the locals can obtain area’s to harvest the peat. Some warm their house and cook with it.
Now writing this blog in the local pub (getting warm by the fire) and having the usual pint of Guinness and fish and chips.
