This national park has a large lake with an 19th century Hunting Lodge at its center. It is surrounded by large mountains covered with bog. The heather only blooms in some sheltered places. At the modern visitors center we boarded the shuttle bus which brought us to the lodge on the lakeshore. From here we walked further on a gravel road along the lake for 3.6 km till a high waterfall. It tumbled down the steep glacier cut slope in the granite rock swelled by all the rain that had been falling on the high mountain plains. Back at the lodge we had a self-guided tour of the various rooms here. Compared to other mansions we had visited it was a modest affair. Now run by the state but previously built and owned by 4 different wealthy Americans with roots in Ireland. We left midafternoon for Derry in Northern Ireland.
