To catch up this was a long day driving (577 km). The roads were good and the landscape beautiful. Nice rolling forested hills with later on closer to Irkutsk more agriculture. I now understand why the Silk Road did not come through Russia. It was all forest and no roads. Progress over the mountains on the fringes of the plains and deserts must have been quicker.
