On the way to our friends Brid and Leo we stopped at Newgrange. Here on the hilltops along the Boyne River are several stone age grave mounts. Two have been restored and can be entered if you can get a ticket. We went in them on our way back to Dublin end September. There is a short tour walking around the outside of this mount. The front is covered with white stone which reflect the sunlight and make it visible on the hilltops alongside. Unique are the large stones at the entrance which are covered in geometric patterns. The winter solstice shines for 3 days all the way to a grave site in the middle of the mount. In the museum close by there is a 3D replica you can go through which also show many carved stones. At the end of the Irish trip we managed to enter the tomb. A few pictures are added here.
