It was still foggy in the morning so we did not drive up the mountain outside the campsite. In Bantry we visited the local Mansion with lovely gardens. It is privately owned so every penny counts for the preservation of this large building. It can do with some paint and plastering outside. Several rooms can be viewed and since it is also a B&B, you can stay overnight. It was still foggy and drizzling so no clear view of the bay from the beautiful gardens.
Driving over the Ring of Beara we crossed the mountains at Healy Pass (290 m). Everywhere along this narrow (2,5m wide) road and due to the rains, there are small streams running down the rocky surface. Sheep are roaming freely on the fields. On the north side of the ring road the fog was driven away and we could see the countryside. There are stone houses, small settlements and farms. At the tip of the peninsula there is an old cable car over a small stretch of seawater to Dursey Island. Some people have a holiday home there. On our return we stopped, not far from the end of the peninsula, at a community center which offers parking for campers. Here we have a nice view of the bay below every time the fog lifts. Hopefully the weather is better tomorrow so we can enjoy the scenery before us before driving away to our next destination.
